The ECO-DECKING composition is very colour fast, but like anything let outside for years and years, you will notice some colour degradation. Most of it occurs during the first 12 months when pigments on the very top of the surface are rinsed by rain. This is called the tanning process.
Typically most of this tanning process occurs in the first 3 months depending on rainfall at the time of year. This can sometimes appear patchy if part of the deck is not exposed to rainfall. This tanning occurence is temporary, and can be accelerated by washing the deck with a diluted sugar soap solution or hosing down the entire surface periodically. After the surface has been evenly wet a number of times the tanning water stain will disappear. The pigment release is very very subtle.
Depending on the exposure to the weather, the deck may be revitalized after about 5 years using an OUTDURE wire brush supplied by OUTDURE. This brush is especially designed for this use and no other wire brush is to be used otherwise it voids the warranty. Eight strokes on each board (four each way) will rejuvenate the surface texture and colour as it removes the very top surface of the decking board. This is to be done no more than once every five years as it is very abrasive on the boards. Spot revitalising can be done on specifics marks, however the maintenance person must must take care not to be overzealous with the wire brush. The property owner or maintenance crew should contact us directly for the correct tools to resurface the deck.
