Redevelopment and renovation of a large membrane podium including structure and surfaces.

Project challenges:

Ryman’s in-house architects required a solution with low-height capabilities for the redevelopment of a large outdoor space for the Sir Edmund Hillary Retirement Village in Auckland. The project included the removal of existing tiles and membrane and the installation of new membrane and new deck finishes.

The solution:

The versatility of the QwickBuild system gave the architects more options than they had anticipated as they could easily integrate not just tiles and decking into the design but also synthetic turf supported by the framework and the innovative aluminium turf baseboards. The relatively large commercial project was fast to install as the majority of the 1207m² of QwickBuild was supplied in prefabricated made-to-measure frames for ease and efficiency on site.

The architects and quantity surveyors collaborated with the Outdure design team to maximise the usability of the space. For this project QwickBuild was used as a floating floor system to support and integrate with decking, tiles and turf using interlocking, hidden fasteners. Installation of lightweight planter boxes together with the low maintenance Outdure tiles, synthetic turf and decking boards, reduced the on-going maintenance assisting to reduce running costs.
